Coconut Water Growth and Flowering Orchid

Coconut water turned out to have benefits to increase plant growth. Coconut water is often discarded by the traders in the market there is no harm for us to use as fertilizer plants. So far, coconut water is widely used in the Lab as an additional nutrient in tissue culture medium.

The results showed that coconut water is rich in potassium (potassium) up to 17%. In addition to rich minerals, coconut water also contains sugar between 1.7 to 2.6% and protein from 0.07 to 0.55%. Other minerals include sodium (Na), calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), ferum (Fe), cuprum (Cu), phosphorus (P) and sulfur (S). Besides rich in minerals, coconut water also contains various vitamins such as citric acid, nicotinic acid, pantotenal acid, folic acid, niacin, riboflavin, and thiamin. There are also 2 natural hormones auksin and cytokinin as supporting the cell division of coconut embryo.

Research at the National Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (BIOTECH) at UP Los BaƱos, Philippines revealed that from coconut water can be extracted hormone which then made a supplement product called cocogro.

The results showed that the hormone product from coconut water is able to increase soybean yield up to 64%, peanuts up to 15% and vegetables up to 20-30%. With high potassium content, coconut water can stimulate flowering of orchids such as dendrobium and phalaenopsis.
